Modeling

No usable 3D asset was available, so I modeled the case, bezel, bracelet, hands, and dial in Cinema 4D from multi-angle reference photos. The asset had to stay recognizable from every angle because each shot had very little screen time.

Fast Cut Rhythm

Cuts land every 1.5 to 2 seconds with hard edits on the kick. I borrowed the pace of sportswear films, then balanced it with luxury-watch close-ups so the final piece stayed energetic without losing product clarity.

Animatic

Before rendering, I built an animatic to test timing, blocking, and shot order. The reference set the musical grid; the animatic showed whether the storyboard still worked once it moved.

Modeling

No usable 3D asset existed for this model, so I built it from scratch in Cinema 4D — case, bezel, bracelet, hands, and dial — working from a hand-drawn blueprint based on multi-angle photo references. The model needed to read clearly from any angle to survive 1.5-second cuts.

Sporty Cuts

Cuts every 1.5–2 seconds, fast easing, hard cuts on the kick. The pacing is closer to sportswear edits than to typical luxury watch films — chosen as the constraint of this study.

Animatic

Storyboarded shots were built into an animatic to test pacing and blocking before any frame was rendered. The reference video on the left sets the timing target; the animatic on the right shows how the storyboard read once it moved. Watch the two side by side to trace where each edit decision landed before the final cut.

Award

The film was nominated in the Student Commercial category at The Motion Awards'23 by Motionographer. It was useful validation, but the real outcome was learning an edit-led 3D workflow that could hold up at a public benchmark.

What changed.

Ver.1 became the editing pass of the Hublot project. After the product-build work in Ver.2, I used this version to study how far a luxury object could be pushed into a faster, music-led rhythm without losing readability.

The biggest lesson was timing discipline. Locking the audio earlier would have reduced rework, because every new shot forced the cut sheet to move. On the next pass, the track and cut structure would be fixed before final modeling starts.

The project also gave me a cleaner C4D, Octane, and AE round trip at 4K. The Motion Awards'23 nomination was a useful signal, but the real value was learning how edit timing changes when the music becomes the main constraint.
