The road becomes optional —
the people inside don't.
The industry has decided what the autonomous cabin is for. The default optimization axis — driver convenience and personal autonomy — has now extended into the back seat. The 2040 cabin becomes a personalized capsule: four people, four screens, one moving room.
HYNION starts from the opposite axis. What if the cabin pulled the family back toward each other instead of further apart? The form arrived from a memory of glamping — why does conversation rise so naturally around a campfire? Three principles fell out: warmth, centrality, and defamiliarization. The chapters that follow are how each one became a piece of the cabin.
Challenge
1990s
Together
The private car became the family's first shared interior. Maps were read together, routes were debated, and the trip itself happened inside the conversation.

2020s
Drifting apart
Smartphones and personal headsets enter the cabin. Family members share the same physical space but consume different content streams — qualitative studies already confirm a decline in face-to-face conversation at home.

2040s
Personalized capsule?
Autonomy releases the driver from the road, and the front seat joins the rest in personal content space. If the industry's default optimization axis goes unquestioned, the cabin becomes a moving room where four people stop facing each other entirely.

Solution

Concept · 01
Warmth,
borrowed from a fire.
The temperature of firelight is the first sensation a technology-centered 2040 is likely to lose. Warm-toned CMF, wood grain, and ambient lighting put it back into the cabin before any screen turns on — a baseline that the rest of the interior is calibrated against.
CMF · warm wood + matte off-white

Concept · 02
Interior Architecture,
a room before a vehicle.
Capsule-like cabin geometry creates a protected, intimate atmosphere. Rounded silhouettes and warm materials replace the typical hard, cold language of automotive interiors. The cabin reads as a room first, a vehicle second.
Form · organic, capsule-like

Soft inside,
signed outside.
Concept · 03
Centrality,
pulled toward the middle.
Form pulls people. Four seats rotate to face a single object at the centre — a hub the bodies orient around the way they used to orient around a fire. The geometry does the work that a conversation prompt usually has to do.
Seating · 4 seats, center-oriented

Concept · 04
Defamiliarization,
firewood at 200 km/h.
A primitive medium dropped into a futuristic vehicle. The Lantern Hub borrows the silhouette of stacked firewood — out of place enough to register, familiar enough to soften the wariness people still bring to autonomy. Projection light was rejected for the same reason: it would have been absorbed into the future, instead of contrasting with it.
Hub · Lantern, stacked-firewood form
