Chapter — The Premise

An object for a hidden transaction.

Every scroll is a transaction.

The user pays in attention; the platform keeps the receipt. Bubblify is a household object that returns the receipt to the user's hand.

Design problem :

Give a body to a transaction that was engineered to stay invisible. What material, weight, input, and sound would make the transaction feel like one?

Create Your Own Bubble

01 — Currency

Attention is spent. Nothing marks the spending.

Design move: treat scrolling as a withdrawal. Each session has a visible balance before it opens, and a visible balance after it closes.

02 — Balance

The bubble above the head belongs to the platform.

Design move: make the platform's balance sheet physical. The bubble fills on the user's side of the room, where they can see it.

03 — Terminal

A transaction needs a close.

Design move: every session ends with a gesture and a sound. The rotary ring returns to zero; the Orb exhales. The receipt is delivered before the next session can open.

Chapter — The Form

Craft 01 — Sketches

Find the silhouette

Sketches, weeks 1–2. The yellow-circled form became the Midjourney seed.

Challenge

Decide whether the object should look like a piggy bank, a microphone, a vase, or a head.

Decide whether the object should look like a piggy bank, a microphone, a vase, or a head.

Decision

Two weeks of pencil silhouettes, narrowed to one. The yellow-circled form then seeded hundreds of Midjourney runs on a single prompt family — *futuristic payment terminal in the abstract shape of a human head, organic, matte.*

Why it mattered

Letting the form settle in pencil meant the silhouette led the geometry, not the toolset. The grid of AI variants was a way of arguing with myself about how human the face should be.

Chapter — The Exhibit

Gallery note · Day 01

"A stranger rotated the ring, the Orb hummed, and they looked at their friend instead of the object."

I removed the instruction card after day one. Visitors still completed the interaction — rotate the ring, watch the bubble, wait for the exhale — without prompting. Silent usability was the outcome I wanted most.

Chapter — Takeaways

What the prototype proved.

What the prototype proved.

The Orb works without explanation. Visitors perform the gesture, wait for the exhale, and leave understanding the metaphor without ever being told it. That was the design result I was after.

The project points to a shelf of adjacent objects — the Ledger, the Receipt, the Returns Desk — each a household fixture for the same hidden economy. Bubblify is the first. The rest is a thesis in progress.
